• More about Weligama Bay

Location

„The most beautiful sunset far famed“

The name Weligama symbolises the vast sandy beaches of the bay and is well-known for its stilt fishing, delicious seafood and traditional dance performances. Situated between the provincial capital Galle, with a world heritage site designated by UNESCO, and Matara, home to the Dondra Lighthouse, the location of the WBR offers the privacy of home living right on the beach. The history of the bay is one of romance - the French Count de Maunay spent part of his life in this region and fell in love with it so much that he decided to buy a tiny island in the heart of the bay where he built a magnificent home. Weligama bay is a three hour drive south of Colombo, only twenty minutes south of Galle, and just 10 minutes from Koggala airport. Leisure activities in Weligama are unlimited – from beach and water sports & activities, visiting Katalysa Temple and the Kustaraja figure to boutique shopping. It is also a perfect starting point to explore the Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve, Uda Walawe and Yala National Park, Horton Plains National Park, Nuwara Elyia´s famous tea plantations or the Kandy region.

Sri Lanka – also known as Ceylon, Pearl of the Orient and Serendib – resembles a giant teardrop falling from the southern tip of India. The island has a population of 19 million in a size of 66.000 sq metres (350 km long and 180 km wide), which is about the same size as Ireland or Tasmania. Sri Lanka is a colourful collection of spice gardens, endless palm beaches, coral reefs, elephants, leopards, bird life and famous tea plantations. Interestingly, 23% of the flowering plants and 16% of the mammals are unique to Sri Lanka. The island is especially known for its source of jewels and pearls, the famous Buddha's Tooth rock, relaxing Ayruveda Spas and amazing Sinharaja Rainforest. Sri Lanka is where the food is delicious and the people are friendly...
